MISSION MOMENT

On Sunday, November 26th we welcomed Kent and Wynne Loehrke as they represented Living Hope International. The mission of LHI is to rescue children, train leaders, and reach the nations with the Gospel. They envision a world where every person has the opportunity to experience joy and reach their God-given potential, regardless of their location or circumstance, through the power of hope found only in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

LHI operates a youth home in Puebla, Mexico, Nations Church and Nations Ministry Institute. Come learn more about the work God is doing through Living Hope International and how you can experience Love, Hope and Mercy first hand!

MISSION PARTNERS

THE CAPTIVE PROJECT – This outreach innovatively focuses on the urban community, targeting the high crime areas of Milwaukee with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, helping to promote unity within the Christian community as they mentor and disciple people in the heart of the city.

CITY ON A HILL – Located in the heart of Milwaukee - City on a Hill is working to break the cycle of generational poverty and bring transformation to central city neighborhoods.  Through a collaborative and Christ-centered model of service, they are working to restore hope, reduce poverty, strengthen families and foster racial reconciliation.  We support this ministry financially.

COMMUNITY WAREHOUSE - Community Warehouse strives to honor God and serve the people of Milwaukee through tangible and practical efforts to rebuild homes and transform communities and lives, one family at a time. They provide employment for background challenged people, job skills training and high quality home improvement products to families in Milwaukee all while modeling biblical principles and authentic relationships. They also run Partners in Hope which is a faith-based prisoner re-entry program, which helps formerly incarcerated prisoners become productive citizens. Mentors and mentees meet at a weekly huddle to connect, support each other and share a meal.

CONCORDIA SEMINARY STUDENT SUPPORT – Shepherd of the Hills is committed to financially helping men and women prepare to become full-time church workers.  We currently support men studying to become pastors and women preparing to be deaconesses at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC LUTHERAN MISSIONARIES – The LCMS is a committed partner in caring for children with disabilities in the Dominican Republic, involved in mission work there since 2004.  After almost 10 years of work with many partners and God's blessings, we celebrate the establishment of several congregations, mission plants, the ordination of the first Dominican pastor, many seminarians studying for the pastoral office, the development of a deaconess training program, and the establishment of a group home for the custody and care of six orphaned children with disabilities.  Join us in prayer as we continue to lift up this important work.

FAMILY PROMISE – Their mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.  They recognize that poverty is a multifaceted problem that requires a multifaceted response.  Family Promise responds by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers.  They provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families.  They also provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless; and educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.

FREE AT LAST MINISTRIES – We partner financially with this ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod that brings the love of Christ to those who are, or have been, incarcerated.  We work with brothers and sisters in Christ at the Milwaukee County House of Correction.

GIDEON’S INTERNATIONAL – They are a body of believers dedicated to making the Word of God available to everyone and, together with the local church, reaching souls for Christ.

GOD TOUCH MINISTRY – God Touch Ministry manages restoration homes for men and women who desire to build a relationship with Jesus Christ and build/rebuild relationships with their family & community.  Located in the city of Milwaukee, they partner with the Milwaukee County House of Correction and help people transition back into society by providing a healthy community of support and accountability around them.  Their restoration homes also provide a positive influence in the neighborhoods around each home.

HOPE CENTER – Hope Center of Waukesha has been helping local families with their basic needs of financial aid, food, clothing, and furniture for almost thirty years, free of charge.

HOPE STREET MINISTRY – Filling a three-story apartment building at 2522 W. Capitol Drive in Milwaukee, Hope Street Ministry provides a safe place to live and a nurturing community for families dealing with the pain of addiction.

HOUSE OF HOPE - Shepherd of the Hills partners with Pastor Jean and Aina Rajaonasy in their home country of Madagascar. The House of Hope is a Christian ministry focused on children and families. The future House of Hope Christian center will provide love and support for spiritual, mental and physical needs to underprivileged children.

INTERVARSITY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP – This multi-campus ministry is sharing the Gospel of Christ and transforming students and faculty, renewing campuses, and developing Christian leaders.  These campus communities witness the love of Jesus as they grow in love for God, God’s Word, God’s people, and God’s purposes in the world.  Volunteer opportunities arise periodically as we partner with our own missionary, Amy Jacobsen, Area Director for InterVarsity.

LINC MILWAUKEE – With the goal of making a comprehensive and coordinated effort to impact the City of Milwaukee with the Gospel, LINC Milwaukee is working to raise up local leaders in the church and plant new churches throughout Milwaukee.

LIVING HOPE INTERNATIONAL – This Christ-centered organization has embraced the mission to rescue children, train leaders and reach the nations with the Gospel.  Centered in Puebla, Mexico, this youth home has cared for nearly 500 vulnerable and at-risk children since 1994, providing a home, education, and even missionary training, as many of their youth graduate and seek to share the Gospel of Christ around the world.

LUMIN SCHOOLS – Lutheran Urban Mission Initiative, Inc. (LUMIN) is setting a new standard for effective, Christ-centered, results oriented urban education in Wisconsin. Under God's provision, they have developed a network of Lutheran schools that shares resources and expertise to create safe, high-quality Lutheran schools focused on educational success, leadership development and spiritual growth.  LUMIN currently operates five urban elementary schools affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and a sixth Christian school in Racine. Enrollment is at record numbers at nearly 1,600 students combined! Over 170 servant hearts make-up the staffs that are equipped and excited to serve God’s children.

LUTHERAN INDIAN MINISTRIES – This Native American ministry continues to reach out to people of all ages with the message of God’s love and His plan of salvation.  Recent financial support has helped with the construction of a new student center at Haskell LIGHT Campus Ministry in Lawrence, Kansas.  This student ministry center is located adjacent to the campus of Haskell Indian Nations University.

MADAGASCAR – Shepherd of the Hills is partnering with a Lutheran church and school in Madagascar in the rural village of Matsinjorano.  With the help of Pastor Jean Rajaonasy, we are building relationships with the children and families in Matsinjorano by providing hand-made quilts, school supplies, toys, and even tables and chairs for the school building, all with the goal of sharing the love of God in Christ Jesus.

MISSION OF CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH – Mission of Christ is an LCMS Church located at 9th and Center in Milwaukee.  We partner with Mission of Christ by assisting in collecting and delivering clothing, household items, and food to their household and food pantry once a month.

NIKKI’S PLACE AGAPE HOME – Located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the Agape Home for babies with HIV/AIDS opened in May 1996 as a response to the plight of children impacted by the spread of HIV/AIDS across Thailand.  Many of the children who come to the Agape Home to live are, or are at risk of being, HIV positive.  Many of them have already lost their parents to AIDS, and there are no other options for their care.  Agape Home provides a loving family for 100+ children aged 0-21 years.

A PLACE OF REFUGE MINISTRIES – This crisis shelter in South Wisconsin offers housing, parenting skills, and employment preparation to expecting mothers, while showering them with the message of unconditional love and forgiveness in Christ.  Thousands of women have been helped through this vital ministry. They are in regular need of items for mothers and babies, such as diapers, sleepers, baby shampoos, etc.

REDEEM AND RESTORE CENTER – Redeem and Restore Center exists to love, restore and support women and girls who have been rescued from domestic sex trafficking.  They exist to help women discover hope and a future – to truly be human again!

SOLES FOR JESUS – Soles for Jesus (SFJ) exists to share the love of Christ by distributing shoes to the underserved in sub Saharan Africa.  SFJ relies on churches, businesses, individuals, foundations and schools to provide the shoes, volunteer assistance, and funds necessary to send ocean freight shipments to Africa.  We support SFJ financially as a congregation, as well as assist in fundraising activities and preparing shoes for shipment to Africa.

SOUTH WISCONSIN DISTRICT OF THE LCMS – Shepherd of the Hills supports the work of the South Wisconsin District of the LCMS.  The resources we send are used to reach out in the name of Jesus to people all around our District.

ZACHARIAH'S ACRES – The mission of Zachariah's Acres, located in Oconomowoc, WI, is to connect children with special health care needs, and their families, to the miracles of nature so they may know their Creator.
